Lower School Dance:
Younger scholars are taught from an early age the fundamentals of movement. One of the most important fundamental taught to the scholars is rhythm, as developing a good sense of rhythm with music is essential to sculpting a well-rounded dancer. Balance is also key to the quality of movement, which is taught through fun activities, such as the “balance challenge”. Upper elementary is introduced to more modern styles of dance, such as jazz, hip-hop, and lyrical.
Middle School Dance:
Our older middle school level dance classes’ goal is to continue to build upon the technique and skills learned at the elementary level. These classes are filled with scholars both new to dance and those that have dance training. Ballet technique and vocabulary are taught in all middle school classes. Upper middle school classes receive more ballet training, typically once a week to improve their dancing ability all around. All of the other days, scholars are taught and perform mostly fun jazz combinations, and introduced to contemporary later on in the year.
High School Dance:
Our high school dance classes are geared towards scholars who are interested in improving in the area of dance, as well as scholars who are considering a career in dance or the performing arts. Ballet terminology and technique are utilized more in these classes, as a means to develop and enhance dance ability. Scholars are taught ballet, jazz, lyrical, contemporary, and any other styles they might be interested in.
